At the moment, Prof. Dr. Dennis Dijkzeul is carrying out an evaluation of a food security project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Cooperation. DMI, originally an organization from India, is working to improve food security in 20 villages in the larger Juba region. In the recent past, these villages have suffered from destruction, malnutrition, and conflict. Most of the people in the villages come from pastoralist families with little experience in agriculture. With substantive support from Caritas Germany, the food security project has worked on improving local agricultural methods, cultivating new land for agriculture, and social organization in the form of farmer's associations.
