Policy Brief "Towards Inclusive Justice: Addressing Persons with Disabilities in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Humanity" published

We are pleased to publish and disseminate the final version of the policy brief: “Towards Inclusive Justice: Addressing Persons with Disabilities in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Humanity”. The brief is part of joint IFHV/CBM project that is being led by William Pons, with the support and collaboration of Dennis Dijkzeul and Vanessa Bliecke

This document outlines why disability inclusion is essential in the upcoming Crimes Against Humanity Convention and provides concrete recommendations for ensuring persons with disabilities are explicitly recognized and protected. It has been designed as an advocacy tool to help influence negotiations at the United Nations and to strengthen accountability for disability-based crimes.

Readers can use this resource to:
Inform advocacy and policy engagement with Permanent Missions of UN Member States (those who are directly involved in the treaty negotiations) and UN bodies. Please do also keep William Pons, Dennis Dijkzeul and Oliver Wiegers updated in case of any direct engagements with a Permanent Mission or other relevant organizations at dennis.dijkzeul@rub.de – this will help us to keep an overview.
Share within your networks, at conferences etc. to spread the word.

You can access the document here: https://www.cbm.org/dam/jcr:3e892b20-1038-49ef-a16f-8d9f8342c03b/Disability_in_the_CAH_Treaty.pdf

Please note that we will update the document on a regular basis if more organisations endorse it (and want to add their logo). The above link remains the same also for any updated version of the document.

And don’t forget to check out the communication package for ready-to-use messages and visuals to support your communication: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WG77NGABwIWlEr2EnrLNT-RZOCwKXhsc/edit?usp=drive_link&ouid=114184162659448881446&rtpof=true&sd=true

Furthermore, we have also developed the attached advocacy two-pager which could be easily printed out for relevant meetings etc. The QR code which you will find in the document will then lead to the full policy brief.
