In 1937-38, Turkish army units murdered and displaced many tens of thousands of people in Dersim (later renamed Tunceli). The symposium gathered researchers and practitioners from Germany and Turkey who have dealt with this violence and its manifold consequence from different perspectives. Organized by the Dersim Community Bochum and the IFHV, the current state of research was documented and put up for discussion. Topics include the classification of the events in terms of international law and social science as well as the development of new research perspectives.
