Contemporary conflicts increasingly erode the core principles of international humanitarian law. New technologies and methods of warfare further strain the legal framework meant to limit suffering. Gilles Carbonnier – Vice-President of the ICRC – examines these challenges and how legal and humanitarian diplomacy can help restore the integrity of IHL.
