NOHA Student Committees at RUB
Universities are democratic institutions with many different opportunities for student participation ensuring that studentsare empowered through giving them a voice in university decisions. Being a part of one of these student committees also fosters leadership and practical skills at an individual level, by serving as a bridge to the faculty-administration and promoting further student engagement and a sense of community within the student group. By participating in these committees, students also influence their educational experience, gain valuable professional (and life) skills, and contribute to a more effective and harmonious campus environment.
A student can hold multiple roles and while these roles do not require any previous experience or the like, for some committees (i.e., the Prüfungsausschuss and the Studienbeirat), a good command of the German language is an advantage.
The following committees are available below:
RUB Cohort Student Council — 2 Student Representatives
Elections: First 2 weeks of the first semester
Serving Term: All 4 semesters, heavier load in Semester 1.
The Student Council (SC) Representatives are elected to represent their cohort in group communication primarily during the 1st semester at RUB. This may extend to all 4 semesters where the need arises. SC Reps act as point-of-contact between the student body and the lecturers/staff for any issues that may arise throughout the semester.
RUB Board of Examiners (Prüfungsausschuss) — 2 Student Representatives
Elections: Before the end of the first semester
Serving Term: 1-year term (1st April to 31 March the following year)
The Prüfungsausschuss (PA) Representatives serve for 1-year (Spring to Spring of the following year). Students in this role assist during the admissions stage for the following incoming cohort of NOHA students but are excluded from being part of decisions that are pedagogical in nature (NOHA PO, para 13(5)). However, they always have the right to be informed and provide student-side consultative advice, while adhering to their obligation of confidentiality. Because the language of the PO is German, it is always good (but not necessary) to have at least one German speaker as the PA Reps.
RUB Student Advisory Board (Studienbeirat) — 3 Student Representatives
Elections: Before the end of the first semester
Serving Term: 1-year term (1st April to 31 March the following year)
In case of changes to the examination regulations, voting rights of the Studienbeirat Reps for the NOHA Study Regulations at RUB (PO) are equal to that of research staff and the Dean of Studies. Since our NOHA-PO is written in German, it is advisable to have a German speaker. The Studienbeirat is only called upon when changes are to be made to the PO.
NOHA-Joint Programme Committee — 1 Student Representative
Elections: Before the end of the first semester
Serving Term: All 4 semesters
The Joint-Programme Committee is the official body of NOHA which meets once a year to provide feedback to the full NOHA Network. The Joint Programme Committee consists of one faculty representative and one student representative of each NOHA master university. JPC Reps are tasked with gathering feedback from their classmates across the different semesters, discussing the overall programme within the committee and providing student-side consultative advice to the NOHA Board of Directors.
